The Brain Treatment Center – Dallas is Now Offering NeuroFeedback!
Do you or your child suffer from ADHD? Are you tired of taking medication to manage this condition? NeuroFeedback is a treatment modality for ADHD patients wanting an alternative treatment other than medications!
Neurofeedback is a way of training an individual’s brain waves to respond to their own unique brain wave activity by the use of biofeedback. It addresses ADHD by moderating the brain waves, thus alleviating symptoms of both hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder.
What makes this treatment so effective is that is unique to each individual and their brain wave patterns. Patients will undergo a qEEG, or “brain mapping” session before beginning their treatment so that the treatment is tailored specifically to each person’s brain. From this qEEG, we are able to gather information about what’s going on in the brain, and even produce a 3-D image of a map of your (or your child’s) brain.

A typical NeuroFeedback session consists of “training” your brain to do what it should be doing versus what it is actually doing. Your brain waves will be monitored throughout your entire session. A video screen is used and plays different things such as video games, movies, etc., and all that’s required on the patient’s part is to pay attention to what they are watching. If they begin to lose focus on the task at hand, the video screen will slowly start to go black and the sound disappears as well. Once the patient refocuses their attention on the screen, the video and the sound are activated again so that the brain is rewarded.
Because your brain waves are being recorded in real-time throughout the training session and hooked up to a box, which is then wired into the equipment, you can “control” what the screen is doing by shifting your focus. Sessions are cumulative, and over time, you will begin to experience noticeable differences in both behavior, mood, and thought patterns.
Usually, the patient will first start to feel calmer after undergoing NeuroFeedback sessions. As they continue, focus will improve. Other benefits include:
- Reduces/eliminates the need for pharmaceuticals
- Improved sleep
- More motivation
- Calmness/more relaxed
- Improved focus
- Improvement in overall mood
NeuroFeedback has been used since the 1950s and there are numerous studies as to its effectiveness. The results are long-lasting, and in addition to modifying behavior, mood, etc., it drastically reduces or eliminates the need for pharmaceuticals! It is non-invasive and there are no contraindications!
At The Brain Treatment Center Dallas, we use a NeuroFeedback system that is considered the “Gold Standard” of training. Ours uses 19 channels and is one of the most updated systems available. It offers more visibility to the brain, allows a 3-D image to be generated, and you can actually see the brain connections being made. It’s the most comprehensive system available and allows for more in-depth reporting and training.
