What Families Often Notice After MeRT Treatment

Every child is different, but across many families, parents and caregivers have reported changes in areas such as:

Communication & Language

  • Increased spontaneous speech or vocalization
  • Better eye contact and social engagement
  • Improved ability to initiate and sustain conversation

Learning & Focus

  • Improved attention and ability to follow directions
  • Stronger memory and academic engagement
  • Better participation in therapy (ABA, OT, speech)

Behavior & Regulation

  • Reduction in stimming or repetitive behaviors
  • Fewer meltdowns or emotional outbursts
  • Greater flexibility in routines and transitions

Sleep & Daily Life

  • More restful sleep patterns
  • Increased independence in daily tasks
  • Greater awareness of surroundings and other people

Individual results vary. MeRT is not a cure for autism. Treatment outcomes depend on many factors, including the individual’s baseline brain patterns and consistency of care.

“She has friends now.”

When we first brought our child to the clinic, we expected some progress with her speech. We ended up getting results in unexpected areas. The first change was eye contact. Then she stopped stimming. Then she started to socialize and play with other children. We’re thrilled with her progress.

How MeRT Treatment for Autism Works

MeRT® (Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy) is a personalized form of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) guided by your child’s own brain data. It begins with a diagnostic step, not a one-size-fits-all protocol.

Brain Mapping (qEEG + EKG)

A non-invasive EEG records your child’s brainwave patterns. This is painless, typically takes under an hour, and gives us a detailed map of how their brain is currently functioning.

Personalized Treatment Plan

Dr. Miller and our clinical team analyze the EEG report to identify areas of imbalance or dysregulation. We use this data to design a treatment protocol specific to your child’s neurological profile.

Daily Treatment Sessions

We deliver treatment Monday–Friday, with sessions lasting 30–45 minutes. The TMS device applies gentle magnetic pulses to targeted areas of the brain. Most children tolerate sessions very well.

Ongoing Monitoring & Adjustment

We repeat the qEEG at regular intervals to track changes in brain activity and adjust treatment parameters as needed. Treatment typically runs 4–8 weeks, with follow-up options available.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age can children start MeRT?

Brain Treatment Center Dallas offers MeRT for children aged four and older. The evaluation process is gentle and sensory-friendly.

How long does treatment take?

Most autism treatment programs run six to eight weeks, with sessions scheduled Monday through Friday. Each appointment is 30 to 45 minutes.

Is MeRT painful or scary for my child?

Treatment involves gentle magnetic pulses, similar to a light tapping sensation. There is no sedation, no needles, and no medication. Our team is experienced in working with children with sensory sensitivities, and our sessions are designed to be calm and comfortable.

How soon might we see changes?

Many families begin to notice shifts in the first two to four weeks of treatment. Common early signs include improved eye contact, changes in sleep, and increased responsiveness. Results vary by individual.

Is MeRT covered by insurance?

MeRT for autism is typically not covered by standard commercial insurance and is considered an out-of-pocket expense. Our New Patient Coordinator can provide full information on your options during your free consultation.

Does MeRT replace other autism therapies?

No. MeRT is designed to complement existing therapies such as ABA, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. In fact, many families find that their other therapies become more effective during or after MeRT treatment.

Is MeRT Right for My Child?

Call our New Patient Coordinator to learn more. She will walk you through the process, answer your questions, and help you decide if MeRT might be a good fit for your child. There’s no pressure, just a conversation.
